Some elements of historical narrative in the history of Balami

چکیده

Literary works are the product and achievements of cultures in various periods, reflecting the cultural, literary, and artistic conditions of society. The existing works from different eras possess distinct stylistic, lexical, and grammatical features that are characteristic of their time. Analyzing these features can effectively elucidate the concepts and content of the relevant works, thereby expanding the scope and boundaries of knowledge.

The aim of this research is to examine the grammatical features of the History of Balami, written by Abu Ali Balami. The History of Balami, as one of the oldest works of Persian prose, is a free translation of the History of Tabari that not only preserves the original content but also incorporates specific characteristics in language and sentence structure. In this study, the grammatical features of Balami's prose are analyzed, including sentence construction, vocabulary usage, elements of old Persian syntax in various forms, and grammatical structures such as sentence order, the use of adverbs, pronouns, verbs, and more. These features indicate the simplicity and fluency of Balami's prose, which has led to this work being recognized as one of the most important historical and linguistic sources of Persian during the Samanid period.

This research is based on a library and descriptive-analytical method. The findings indicate that the History of Balami possesses grammatical features unique to the Khorasani style, and examining and explaining these features can contribute to stylistic studies, literary criticism, grammar, and text interpretation
