The Science of "Mukhtālif al-Hadith" and Its Role in Understanding the Prophetic Hadith (Peace Be Upon Him)

Abstract

The science of "Mukhtālif al-Hadith" (the study of contradictory hadiths) is one of the most significant branches of hadith sciences, and understanding it accurately is essential for scholars, hadith experts, jurists, and theologians. This field involves the analysis and examination of hadiths that appear to be in conflict, aiming to resolve these contradictions through methods such as reconciliation, preference, or abrogation. This study explores the role of Mukhālif al-Hadith in understanding the Prophetic hadith (Peace Be Upon Him), emphasizing its importance in strengthening the foundations of Islam, preserving the Prophetic heritage, and advancing the science of hadith in subsequent periods. The research method is descriptive-analytical, utilizing hadith, jurisprudence, and theological sources to examine the principles and methodologies for resolving contradictions in hadiths. The findings indicate that Mukhālif al-Hadith plays a significant role in the interpretation and derivation of legal rulings and that its principles assist in reinforcing the understanding, preservation, and preference of conflicting hadiths, reflecting the meticulousness and dedication of scholars in safeguarding the faith. Moreover, examining the works of early scholars in this field reveals that their attention to this science played a pivotal role in the development of hadith studies. The conclusion of this research highlights the necessity of broader familiarity with the science of Mukhālif al-Hadith and underscores its importance in the continuity of hadith studies.
