The Primary Sources that can be Relied Upon for the Study of the Prophetic biography (Seerah)

Abstract

This study aims to introduce the sources and origins of the Prophetic biography (Seerah) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is well known that the sources of the Seerah are an unparalleled treasure of wisdom, lessons, and morals that can be drawn from the life of the Prophet Muhammad. He serves as a role model for Muslims in all aspects of life, whether religious, social, or behavioral. Through the study of his noble biography, we can learn how he interacted with people, how he thought and acted in various situations he encountered. It is also crucial to understand the historical and social context in which the Prophet Muhammad lived, and how his life was influenced by the surrounding circumstances. This understanding aids in grasping the reasons behind the events that took place at that time and how the Prophet (peace be upon him) acted under those conditions. This research followed a descriptive and analytical methodology, relying on library resources and data, particularly major works and scholarly articles related to the subject. The study concluded that the sources of the Prophetic biography are invaluable treasures that document the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and provide significant lessons in faith, morality, and good conduct. The sources of the Seerah are diverse, encompassing historical books, Prophetic traditions (Hadith), biographies written about the Prophet’s life, and exegetical works that explain the context of Qur'anic verses related to his life. In summary, the sources of the Seerah represent a magnificent legacy for all humanity, containing priceless lessons and insights. They serve as clear evidence of the greatness of Prophet Muhammad as a leader and messenger, providing us with a model to emulate for achieving success and happiness in both this world and the hereafter.
