Abstract
The concentration of housing in provincial centers and the expansion of urbanization—driven by the influx of peripheral and rural populations into major cities—has become one of the major social challenges of contemporary times. When urban spaces experience the merging of diverse population structures with differing urban and rural value systems, various forms of social disorder may emerge, particularly concerning the level of social responsibility, civic awareness among new residents, as well as resulting cultural conflicts and divides. This study aims to examine the level of social awareness, volunteerism, and civic and urban responsibilities among the residents of Fayzabad city. The research has been conducted using a descriptive–survey design. Moral, legal, and social awareness related to urban duties and responsibilities—such as the protection of public places and resources, participation in social events and communal activities, maintaining cleanliness of public facilities, conserving community resources, and contributing to voluntary activities without material gain—are the main issues assessed in this study. The findings indicate that the citizens of Fayzabad, particularly the educated segment of the population, generally regard these matters as part of their civic and urban obligations. However, a noticeable gap exists between citizens’ level of social awareness and their actual practical commitment to these responsibilities.
