چکیده

Abstract

Chemical pollutants are among the major threats to environmental health in the contemporary world. These compounds, originating from industrial, agricultural, and urban activities, enter natural resources such as soil, water, and air, disrupting ecosystem balance and endangering the health of humans and other living organisms. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are particularly notable for their carcinogenic potential, with benzo(a)pyrene being the most recognized carcinogen in this group. This compound can be found in soil, water, smoke from sugarcane and cigarettes, as well as in waste from PVC manufacturing plants. Other chemical hazards include chlorinated compounds such as dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and naphthalenes. Dioxins are generated as intermediates during industrial processes involving chlorine or bromine, and also result from the burning of organic materials in chlorinated environments. Smoke from sugarcane processing and industrial emissions are significant sources of dioxins. Additionally, pesticides and heavy metals represent critical concerns regarding chemical pollution. Therefore, the effects of chemical pollutants on environmental health must be evaluated comprehensively to ensure ecosystem stability and public safety.
