Abstract
Seed preparation before sowing, commonly known as seed priming, is a physiological process applied to seeds prior to germination to enhance the speed and uniformity of sprouting, establishment of seedlings, early growth, flowering, and maturation. It also improves resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses and can significantly increase crop yield. This review aims to provide an overview of pre-sowing seed preparation, its importance, and the factors influencing the priming process. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, drawing upon reputable academic books, scientific journals, and both national and international research articles. The findings indicate that seed priming encompasses various techniques, including osmopriming, hydropriming, halo-priming, matrix priming, hormonal priming, chemical priming, and biopriming. Overall, the application of seed priming has been shown to enhance both the quantity and quality of production across a wide range of crops, including wheat, rice, sorghum, sesame, chickpea, lentil, carrot, and others.
